375ai & Akave: Building Verifiable Edge Intelligence

375ai, a decentralized edge data intelligence network, has integrated a technical pilot with Akave, an enterprise-grade, S3-compatible object storage solution purpose built for edge and AI. Akave provides 375ai with the data integrity guarantees, low latency, high performance, and significant cost savings.

This strategic integration between 375ai and Akave promises to enhance the capabilities of edge AI applications by combining real-time data processing with robust, decentralized storage. 375ai's edge nodes, deployed across prime locations in L.A. and soon NJ and South Florida, turn vast amounts of raw data into actionable intelligence at the edge.

By leveraging Akave's object interfaces and modular architecture, 375ai ensures that collected data is securely stored with high durability and cost efficiency, while managing the data flow into Akave’s decentralized network at the point of capture increasing efficiency and security.

Integration Process

375ai was able to seamlessly integrate with Akave using Akave O3, a fully S3-compatible solution that can be deployed anywhere, enabling enterprise level storage with reduced costs.

Data Lake:

375ai requires persistent storage for their data sets, and maintains a network of edge compute devices which host their decentralized data lake.

By using Akave Cloud, they are taking a first step towards decentralizing their storage architecture, sending millions of data points collected per day to secure and decentralized storage. Soon 375ai will be able to self-host the Akave O3 gateway on each device, enabling even greater security, control over their data, and reduced costs. Once data enters Akave’s O3 gateway, Akave Cloud propagates the data across nodes in the network, ensuring durability and resiliency.

Data Transfer:

The initial transfer of data was quick and easy. By leveraging the Akave O3 interface 375ai can also migrate data from their existing cloud provider into the Akave Network with a simple copy command, keeping the same bucket and object based schema with no need to reformat the current data lake structure.

Technical Diagram

Although 375ai leverages Akave Cloud’s fully managed storage today, this diagram illustrates the target architecture for the 375edge → Akave integration. It aims to describe the mutual vision of a deep, fully decentralized integration.

  1. In the envisioned flow, 375edge devices will collect, process, and transmit multimodal data in real time as they are today.
  2. 375vault devices will then aggregate this into a distributed data lake for secure storage and propagation. As part of the roadmap, 375vault devices would host the Akave O3 gateway, enabling them to then onboard the data into the Akave Network using their own encryption keys maintaining full data sovereignty and security.
  3. Data is then sharded, chunked and erasure coded across storage nodes in the Akave Network, and backed up to Filecoin for added durability.
    1. Data can also be easily copied over from their historical data lake storage on S3 with a simple copy command through an Akave O3 gateway instance.
  4. Finally, data monetization can be enabled through Akave’s indexing and ability to charge per query, making it easy to integrate datasets into data marketplaces.

Benefits

  • Compatibility with existing tools
    • Akave O3 seamlessly integrates with tools like Spark and PostgreSQL, maintaining a full data flow architecture with minimal technical overhead
    • Because of Akave’s full S3-compatible endpoint structure (supporting virtually all S3 commands) there are hundreds of interoperable tools Akave plugs into, many of which are open source and industry standard.
    • Combining web2 standards with web3 decentralization and composability provides the best of both worlds.
  • Processing Time
    • Switching to the self-hosted O3 gateway and moving data out of the cloud both contributes to reduced processing times and latency, enabling concurrent, distributed uploads into the Akave Network without needing a centralized endpoint.
    • All data captured by 375ai is processed at the edge, by hosting storage endpoints where compute happens, the time from data capture to monetizable asset goes from months old and stale (all too common in the data marketplace industry - functionally unusable) to being ready for use in under 24 hours.
  • Security
    • 375ai captures sensitive data that needs to be encrypted at rest on device and in transit.
    • Akave provides encryption by default, and allows customers to bring their own encryption keys so the only ones with access to data is the customer who holds the keys (not your keys not your data!).
    • The self-hosted O3 gateway ensures that all encryption happens as soon as data touches the Akave Network, verifying from the start that no data is vulnerable to unauthorized access ensuring trust and safety for both data providers and purchasers (knowing that data purchased is unique and unmodified).
  • Durability
    • When capturing large volumes of data from all around the world that’s time sensitive, requires persistent storage, and irreplaceable durability is key.
    • Akave ensures 11 9s of durability by starting with erasure coding, using a 32,16 Reed-Solomon erasure coding schema distributed across its decentralized network ensuring that even if 1, 2, or even a dozen nodes go down your data is still reconstructable and is automatically done with a self-healing algorithm.
    • In addition to this geodistributed, self-healing, and durable network architecture we also back up all data to Filecoin, the oldest and extremely reliable decentralized storage network.
  • Costs
    • Persistent storage on Akave comes with erasure coding and archival storage on Filecoin all at a reduced cost from traditional cloud storage providers.
    • Additionally, the ability to store with an external (from the cloud) data source that still has S3 compatibility provides the ability to leverage self-hosted, open source query engines, saving on compute along with storage.
    • On our partnership roadmap, 375ai hosts a network of powerful machines that can also contribute to the security and localization of Akave’s Network. By working together, Akave and 375ai can turn data into a monetizable asset instead of a cost.
