How It All Began
The three of us came out of the Filecoin ecosystem and spent years helping build what became the world’s largest decentralized storage network. Angelo was on the front lines as a Filecoin storage provider. Daniel helped stand up the Decentralized Storage Alliance to grow the ecosystem and align players. Stefaan led network growth for Filecoin, working directly with builders, storage providers, and partners to scale adoption.
As the network matured, we kept hearing the same request over and over. Enterprises and builders wanted control back. Not just cheaper storage, but the ability to run data on local infrastructure providers for performance, sovereignty, and regulatory compliance, delivered through simple object storage APIs they already know.
That signal shaped our belief system. We believe in a world where apps, users, businesses, and countries truly own their data, and where data sovereignty is enforceable through code, not just promises. We also believe the same transition that moved infrastructure from on premises to cloud twenty years ago is happening again, as teams move from cloud to more localized secure, verifiable, blockchain based infra stacks.
So when Protocol Labs launched its Venture Studio, we took that opportunity seriously. With early support from key investors, Akave was born to give people control, secure their assets, and make data ownership real through infrastructure you can verify, not just trust.
Today we are proud to support multiple customers in the enterprise and Web3 space that have made the transition with us and we are looking forward to support you too with your business needs.
